Murder at St. George's Church: a 1920s cozy historical mystery (A Ginger Gold Mystery Book 7) Kindle Edition
Weddings can be murder.
Romance is in the air for the delightful Reverend Oliver Hill. Unfortunately, the choir rehearsal for the wedding ends abruptly with the sudden and disturbing appearance of a body.
War widow fashionista Ginger Gold is determined to find the killer even if it means working with the dashing, yet exasperating Chief Inspector Basil Reed, but only in her professional capacity as a private investigator. Like they say: once burnt, twice shy.
Basil has his work cut out for him if he wants to solve this case and win back Ginger’s heart.
He’s up for the challenge.

Researching for the Ginger Gold Mysteries has been so much fun. I hope you sense that as you read. Ginger Gold is smart, savvy, and delightful. The fashions, the dances, the CRIME. The character of Haley Higgins, a medical student at the London Medical School for Women allows me to further delve into another keen interest of mine: forensics. Never fear, the Ginger Gold Mysteries are COZY, so no scary, graphic on-stage violence. You'll find these books to be clean reads, with no swearing or sex. I hope you enjoy the Ginger Gold Mystery series!

Review
"Clever and entertaining, you'll love this charming Golden Age mystery series. And the fashion is to die for!" - Molly C. Quinn, actress, Castle
"This title found me totally engrossed in my reading to the point of skipping bedtime 'til the tale was complete. The mystery of who was the murderer was done well - I did not guess until the end." ~ Andra, Amazon reviewer
"Murder on the S. S. Rosa by Lee Strauss is a short prequel to the Ginger Gold cozy mystery series that has all the hallmarks of a fascinating mystery series. Charles A. Ray - Amazon reviewer
"Absolutely fabulous! I really could not enjoy a series any more than this one." Terri Donaldson - Amazon reviewer
"Oh, Gosh! I didn't plan on getting hooked on yet another series, but I can't help it! I really, really like Ginger Gold! She is sharp as a tack, has guts, and knows what she wants and how to get it! Each one of these stories was practically un-put-downable. Plots are very intriguing, characters very well developed, and extremely well written. If you're a fan of the Australian series 'Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries', you'll love Ginger Gold!" JAM - Amazon reviewer
"This was an incredible read. The characters were full of life, and very likeable. The plot was engaging, and kept me guessing until the end. I read this straight through, only stopping when life made me. Highly recommended!" Mary Moon - Amazon reviewer
"I love the Ginger Gold mysteries! Strauss makes the 20's come alive with her costumes and society happenings. These are a fun read and good mysteries as well. The attention to little details makes the books even better. You feel you are there. Strauss keeps the suspense and twists coming fast." - Jan, Amazon reviewer
"Lady Gold is Solid Gold! Ginger Gold is a true lady, in both manners and title. She owns her own boutique, and manages to find time to solve mysteries. She can always count on her best friend, Haley, who is a medical student who assists the coroner. The cast of characters is rich and each is different in the most fantastic way." Katie Thompson - Amazon reviewer

Researching for the Ginger Gold Mysteries has been so much fun. I hope you sense that as you read. The fashions, the dances, the CRIME. I admit to being heavily influenced by the Miss Fisher Mysteries TV series, and you might find some similarities between Ginger Gold and Phryne Fisher, but I assure you, they are two very different characters when you dig deep. Chief Inspector Basil Reed is back & determined to woo Ginger. Problem is, Ginger is being squired by a friend of Oliver, vicar of St. George Church.
When the choirmaster is felled by a loose organ pipe then pushed off the organ loft,
who in the choir wanted him dead? Basil is delighted to work closely with Ginger but she's not so sure. Several interesting subplots include Oliver's impending nuptials which only he seems happy about taking place so quickly. A few surprises take place as well. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
Previously, Basil Reed had left town (actually the country) and Ginger started dating Canadian naval captain William Beale. She claims she's over Basil (she isn't) and her heart isn't giving him another chance, that they're only working together to solve this case. There were many suspects as not only was Mr. Edwards not a very good husband, he wasn't a faithful one either, and you know what they say about a woman scorned.
I didn't care for the naval captain, William Beale. If he would've stuck around I don't think he and Ginger would've dated much longer. He didn't want her to work because "she didn't have to", and he seemed to have a jealous streak and a temper. Not a good fit for our happy, caring Ginger. I'm saddened that Ginger's best friend, Hailey had to leave England and go back to the U.S. (sigh), which means no more snappy banter between these best friends. Who's going to complain about Ginger's driving now? I was happy that Ginger's half-sister Louisa has decided to go back to Boston, as she got on my nerves more than Felicia and the dowager Lady Gold.
I'm glad Basil is back but think it should've taken him longer to win Ginger back. That part of the book felt a little rushed, especially since she was so upset with him for not contacting her the entire time he was gone. I'm really going to miss Hailey. Ginger's going to have to find someone else to help her with the medical side of her investigations from now on.
I own the ebook, but listen to the audiobook through the Hoopla app from my library. The narrator does a great job with the British and American accents.
Take a mental health day; grab the kitty or puppy, cuddle up in your favorite reading nook and travel back 90 years. You won’t regret it!
**SPOILER ALERT**
** Seriously, please don't read any further if you haven't read the book yet. I don't want to spoil it for anyone! **
I was appalled that Ginger didn't offer to go with Haley and help, even though it would require great, albeit temporary, inconveniences on her part. That may be due to the new series but still. It seemed highly out of character and quite odd. I think the book should have ended with at least 3 travelers and skipped the picnic scene. In regard to that, I hoped for a different outcome for Ginger, just not with any of the characters we've already met. I think we had one too many "he loves me/I love her, he loves me not/I'm sticking with my wife" times with Basil for me to stay invested in their relationship.

The only thing that I found distracting was the many times the phrase "Oh, mercy" was used in the first few chapters. It was used so often, in fact, that repitition made it begin to lose meaning. This is why I gave one star less than usual.
I do look forward to reading both Ginger's next adventure and the new Haley series.
